The replay of our first ever on-farm conference gives you the tools and knowledge you need to set up your homestead pastures for grazing.

We talk about seeding pastures, designing infrastructure, and beginning to regenerate pastures quickly, and some of the unconventional paths we've taken to get there. This is real experience from real farmers.

There are a lot of people showing you how to build a stanchion, but very few people know how to graze and achieve the goals you had when you started: to milk a cow (or raise sheep or goats) on what the sun and rain grow. We will also help you know how to supplement your pastured livestock with essential nutrition as your pastures improve and ensure that she is ready to make medicinal milk and avoid the grass-starving trap. You will walk away with knowledge that triumphs over ideology and confidence to make decisions that work in your context.

What does the replay include?

  • Seminar Talk with Suzanne & Dr. Hue Karreman

  • Pasture Tour: Follow along as we show you what our usually lush pastures look like in drought and how to not waste opportunities to build soil in drought by following soil-growing management practices — this is unvarnished regenerative agriculture in action!

  • Q&A with Suzanne & Dr. Karreman: We field real questions and deal with practical concerns.

Redefine your relationship with the land and your food source. It's possible to grow nutrient-dense food for your livestock and make your farm more beautiful and resilient in the process. What goes in your bank account has nothing on the security of what grows in your soil bank account.

Introduction to Sustainable Farming Techniques

  1. Overview of sustainable farming, including soil biology, controlled burns, seed management, and overall farm management.

  2. Emphasis on transitioning from consumer to producer, focusing on enlightened choices and the impact of labels like "grass-fed" and "no antibiotics" on consumer behavior and animal welfare.

 Soil Health and Management

  1. Importance of maintaining soil health through carbon products, organic fertilizers, regenerative practices, and minimal tillage.

  2. Role of stable carbon, soil organic matter, and soil biology in water retention and plant growth.

  3. Managing soil disturbance and rest to prevent degradation and maintain productive pastures.

  4. Financial implications of poor soil health on productivity and animal health.

Importance of Proper Husbandry and Stewardship

  1. Focus on animal welfare and individualized care

  2. Managing soil health through disturbance and rest

  3. Role of stable carbon in soil health and water retention

 Managing Pasture Disturbance and Rest

  1. Creating effective disturbance-rest cycles for soil and pasture health

  2. Benefits of flexible management systems and fixed water sources

Water Management

  1. Critical importance of efficient water usage for livestock well-being and farming operations.

  2. Techniques for water management, including mobile water tubs, Jobe adapters, mega flow valves, and preventing water loss.

  3. Integrating water management with flexible fencing strategies to control grazing and prevent overgrazing.

Observing Animal Behavior and Health
